I think motherhood can do almost anything at all, including confirming the non-existence of god, for you. What I'm not sure about is whether that personal revelation has significance for anyone else; I don't think it does. I don't get this sort of attitude from people that I know- it's mainly the media. Often representatives of Mumsnet, although as pointed out above that's a symptom not a cause.
